His academic qualifications include Bachelor of Engineering (QUT), Master of Laws (University of Melbourne) and Master of Environmental and Local Government Law (Macquarie). He is currently completing a PhD in law at the University of London. His thesis is on expert evidence.

David specialises in building and construction, and planning and environment, disputes and litigation.

Building and construction

David has more than 20 years of in-depth and practical experience as a building, construction and mining industry litigator, including in-house counsel roles at John Holland and GHD. He is often retained as counsel in large technical disputes as he has dual qualifications in law and engineering. His work in this area includes acting in:

  • all types of claims, disputes, legal proceedings and arbitrations between owners/principals, contractors/builders, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers and insurers;

  • contentious “Security of Payment” matters and adjudications;

  • Building Act matters;

  • licensing and regulatory matters; and

  • international construction arbitrations.

Planning and Environment

David’s work in the planning and environment law area involves acting in:

  • appeals;

  • Ministerial call in matters;

  • proceedings under State and Commonwealth environment protection legislation;

  • contaminated land and pollution matters; and

  • prosecutions and enforcement proceedings.

Having completed a Master of Environmental and Local Government Law degree and worked as a solicitor at the EPA (Victoria), David’s work has a strong environmental focus. Many of his cases involve land which is regulated under environment protection legislation, including industrial/manufacturing businesses, landfills, contaminated land and recycling or resource recovery facilities.
